Trump’s Legal Setback: Appeals Court Upholds Jury Verdict
The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday shot down President Donald Trump’s bid to overturn the jury verdict in writer E. Jean Carroll’s civil battery and defamation case.
Trump argued that a 2024 Supreme Court decision on presidential immunity should protect him from the lawsuit. The appeals court wasn’t buying it, according to Reuters.
Carroll previously won a whopping $83.3 million jury award after Trump denied her claims that he raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room back in 2019.
While the jury didn’t find Trump guilty of rape, they did hold him accountable for defamation and battery. He’s been trying to overturn that verdict on several fronts, but so far, nothing’s worked.
