Trump’s Call to Action
In a recent House vote, 38 Republican lawmakers stood against a continuing resolution that President-elect Donald Trump endorsed. This bill was meant to prevent a government shutdown and push forward the ‘America First’ agenda.
Earlier on Thursday, Trump emphasized the importance of this funding bill, calling it “VITAL to the America First Agenda.” He urged all Republicans to support it.
SUCCESS in Washington!
Speaker Mike Johnson and the House have come to a very good Deal for the American People. The newly agreed to American Relief Act of 2024 will keep the Government open, fund our Great Farmers and others, and provide relief for those severely impacted by the devastating hurricanes.
A VERY important piece, VITAL to the America First Agenda, was added as well – The date of the very unnecessary Debt Ceiling will be pushed out two years, to January 30, 2027. Now we can Make America Great Again, very quickly, which is what the People gave us a mandate to accomplish.
All Republicans, and even the Democrats, should do what is best for our Country, and vote “YES” for this Bill, TONIGHT!
Internal Party Conflict
Trump didn’t hold back when he criticized Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) for blocking this crucial funding bill. He suggested that Roy should face a primary challenge.
The very unpopular “Congressman” from Texas, Chip Roy, is getting in the way… Republican obstructionists have to be done away with.
The Democrats are using them, and we can’t let that happen…
The Vote Outcome
Despite Trump’s backing, the plan failed as 38 Republicans joined Democrats in opposition. This proposed legislation aimed at extending government funding for three months while providing over $100 billion in disaster relief and aid for farmers. It also sought to suspend the nation’s borrowing limit for two years but ultimately did not secure enough votes.
Concerns Over Spending
Many Republicans voted against the bill due to its significant spending increase of over $100 billion and a $4 trillion debt limit hike without any meaningful cuts. Here are some key voices from those who opposed:
-
- Aaron Bean (R-FL)
- Andy Biggs (R-AZ)
- Josh Brecheen (R-OK)
- Tim Burchett (R-TN)
- Kee Self (R-TX)
Voices of Opposition
Rep. Keith Self expressed frustration over Congress’s failure to manage spending responsibly:
I cannot support… a deal that raises the debt by $4 trillion rather than making necessary cuts.
Rep. Josh Brecheen shared his concerns about inflation:
This bill increases spending by over 100 billion… allowing inflation to continue.
A Call for Change in Strategy
The sentiment among many GOP members is clear: they want a different approach. Rep. Thomas Massie stated simply:
This isn’t complicated. Separate the bills and vote on them individually.
The Path Forward
This situation highlights an ongoing struggle within our party—balancing support for President Trump’s agenda while ensuring fiscal responsibility. As we move forward, it’s essential that we listen to our constituents and prioritize their needs over political gamesmanship.
