The Crash Breakdown
ESPN reported: Cindric was leading with just five laps to go when Logano, two rows back, gave Keselowski a hard shove right into Cindric. This caused Cindric to spin out and resulted in 27 of the 40 cars getting some kind of damage during this chaotic event.
Even Stenhouse had a piece of sheet metal missing from his driver side door as he made his way to victory lane. After all that chaos, teams were upset about how NASCAR managed the cleanup process. Some even claimed that Stenhouse’s car should have been forced to pit for repairs due to safety concerns over missing foam in his door area.
“I bet they did. I didn’t see any missing foam,” said winning crew chief Mike Kelly. He believes NASCAR will take another look at how they handled such a messy situation with so many cars involved and tow trucks on-site. “They were put in a tough situation with that many cars involved in the wreck,” he added, highlighting just how tricky it can be when things go south like this.
A Closer Look at Safety Concerns
Stenhouse later admitted there was indeed foam hanging out of that gaping hole after all! The race had to stop for nearly nine minutes while they cleaned up, leaving only 22 cars still on the lead lap for an exciting two-lap overtime finish—many of those being damaged vehicles!
The Thrill of Victory by Inches
In an incredible finish, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. clinched victory at Talladega by just 0.006 seconds! Talk about cutting it close! Fans couldn’t believe their eyes as they watched this nail-biting conclusion unfold before them.
